Hello Parlier USD Families!
As I structure my meetings with various stakeholders, staff, leaders, parents, and students, a strategic communication plan is taking shape and will be made available so that we can all know when to expect information from the District and what medium will be used. My plan is to communicate on a weekly basis with Parlier families and community stakeholders via ParentSquare, our District website, and Facebook on Fridays (and anytime needed due to unforeseen emergencies). Today's communication is a special one to give an update on where we are with distance learning and planning toward our return to face-to-face instruction.
There are a few things that we must consider as we decide how to move forward with distance learning and return to face-to-face instruction. As an important contributor to the accomplishments of our students, you should be aware of these factors so that you can identify your role in the on-going initiatives.
We are all eager to return to face-to-face instruction because we know the most impactful learning comes from teachers interacting in person with students. The state guidance allows us to exercise our local control and decision-making process to choose the best path forward for our schools and community. Thus, we have arrived at aiming to return to face-to-face instruction in a hybrid model at the beginning of the second semester on January 12, 2021. Until then, we will work toward increasing the number of students participating in small cohorts at each school. Site leaders have been charged with identifying their students' needs and the best way to meet those needs via a small cohort model. I will meet with each of them to discuss their plans and students that will be impacted. You will receive communication if your student is identified as a student who needs to participate in small cohort instruction from his/her school in the next couple of weeks. You will also be given safety, transportation, and scheduling information so that you and your student know what to expect during the time he/she participates in small cohort face-to-face instruction.
At the District level, the same committee that worked on the return to school plan back in the spring semester has reconvened this week to review the original hybrid plan and update it as needed. I discussed the tentative timeline with them and the current state guidance as context for their final draft, which will be presented to the Board for approval in the coming months.
Thank you for your patience as we work towards a positive and safe return to face-to-face instruction. I appreciate your partnership during this time of having to teach our students through distance learning. This has been challenging in many ways, and I appreciate all the grace and understanding we have received. - Criteria issued by the California Department of Public Health allows for cohorts of small groups students to return to face-to-face learning with modifications in areas that have been cleared to reopen. This guidance enables schools to provide specialized services for students with disabilities and English learners, access to internet and devices for distance learning, and in-person support for at-risk and high-need students, including foster and homeless students.
- Fresno County Covid -19 numbers and percentages rates for the virus are going down and our county has moved from the Purple Tier (Widespread) to the Red Tier (Substantial) and has remained there for three weeks. This means that school districts may open back up for face-to-face instruction, as long as all social distancing guidelines are followed.
- We have been providing face-to-face instruction to a limited number of students with disabilities at one of our elementary schools.

Al estructurar mis reuniones con personal, líderes, padres y estudiantes, un plan de comunicación estratégico está tomando forma y estará disponible para que todos puedan saber cuándo esperar información del Distrito y qué medio se utilizará. Mi plan es comunicarme semanalmente con las familias de Parlier y las partes interesadas de la comunidad a través de ParentSquare, nuestro sitio web del Distrito y en Facebook los viernes (y en cualquier momento necesario debido a emergencias imprevistas) cada viernes. La comunicación de hoy es especial para dar una actualización sobre dónde nos encontramos con el aprendizaje a distancia y la planificación para nuestro regreso a la instrucción presencial.
Hay algunas cosas que debemos considerar al decidir cómo avanzar con el aprendizaje a distancia y regresar a la instrucción presencial. Como contribuyentes importantes a los logros de nuestros estudiantes, ustedes deben conocer estos factores para que puedan identificar cómo pueden apoyar las iniciativas en curso.
Todos estamos ansiosos por volver a la instrucción presencial porque sabemos que el aprendizaje más impactante proviene de los maestros que interactúan en persona con los estudiantes. El guía estatal nos permite ejercer nuestro control local y proceso de toma de decisiones para elegir el mejor camino a seguir para nuestras escuelas y comunidad. Así, hemos decidido volver a la instrucción presencial en un modelo híbrido al inicio del segundo semestre que cae el 12 de enero del 2021. Hasta entonces, trabajaremos para aumentar el número de estudiantes que participan en pequeños grupos en cada escuela. Los líderes del sitio se han encargado de identificar las necesidades de sus estudiantes y la mejor manera de satisfacer esas necesidades a través de un modelo de grupos pequeños. Me reuniré con cada uno de ellos para discutir sus planes y los estudiantes que se verán afectados. Ustedes recibirán comunicación si su estudiante es identificado como un estudiante que necesita participar en la instrucción de grupos pequeños de su escuela en las próximas dos semanas. También se le dará información sobre seguridad, transporte y horarios para que usted y su estudiante sepan lo qué deben esperar durante el tiempo que él/ella participe en la instrucción presencial para grupos pequeños.
A nivel del Distrito, el mismo comité que desarrolló el plan de regreso a la escuela en el semestre de primavera se ha vuelto a reunir esta semana para revisar el plan híbrido original y actualizarlo según sea necesario. Discutí el cronograma tentativo con ellos y el guía del estado actual como contexto para su borrador final, que será presentado a la Junta de la Mesa Directiva del Distrito para su aprobación en los próximos meses.
Gracias por su paciencia mientras trabajamos hacia un regreso positivo y seguro a la instrucción presencial. Agradezco su colaboración durante este tiempo de tener que enseñar a nuestros estudiantes a través del aprendizaje a distancia. Les agradezco toda la gracia y la comprensión que hemos recibido. Nuestros maestras/os y personal han estado haciendo un trabajo increíble asegurando que nuestros estudiantes reciban la mejor educación posible.
