Hello! I can’t believe that we are in November already! This is Dr. Guerrero and this is our monthly video update and also this week’s communication.
It’s been more than ten weeks of distance learning and many of you are wondering how much longer it is going to last. The Fresno county COVID-19 case numbers continue to decrease and we continue to be in the “Substantial” Red Tier, and more businesses and school districts have reopened in some capacity.
The committee to outline a plan to return to face-to-face instruction has reconvened and is conducting research and collaborating to put a plan together. A survey will be going out to parents and staff this week to let us know the number of students that we can expect back at the beginning of the second semester on January 12 if we are cleared to safely return to campus for face-to-face instruction. Please take a moment to fill out the survey so that we can plan accordingly as we inventory the resources that we have to meet the needs of our students during the Spring of 2021.
I know that these are uncertain times for all and we are all facing various challenges. I assure you that we are doing everything in our power to put any necessary health and safety measures in place to welcome our students and staff back to our schools. Our weekly communication will continue to give you any updates, so don’t forget to check our website and ParentSquare for more information. I do not know exactly how our return to in-person instruction will look like, but I am convinced that our students need a return to consistent school experiences and an opportunity to grow and learn from others.
In the meantime, school staff has identified some students who would benefit from face-to-face instruction in a small group in person. Those students have been asked to come to their campus to receive in-person instruction and assistance starting this week and will continue for the remainder of this semester until December 18. This will only be provided to a small number of students at each site and all health and safety guidelines will be followed.
Also, we recently updated the distance learning plan for our high school students. They are now expected to log into Zoom Tuesday through Friday. This change is due to a substantial number of students not submitting their assignments or actively engaging in the learning platform. It is extremely important for all students to log in to Zoom and complete all assignments EVERYDAY! It is very important to keep learning while we wait to physically return to our schools. If you have any difficulty logging in, please contact your school.
Please continue to follow all safety protocols. A season of holiday celebration is just around the corner and we may have an opportunity to get together with extended family and friends. Let’s all remember to continue to wear our masks, wash our hands regularly, and keep our distance.
November is known as Gratitude Month. Even as we face uncertainty and hardship, let’s remember to be grateful for what we do have. I am personally grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Parlier USD family. Thank you for keeping your faith strong. We will come out of this crisis stronger and wiser. ¡Hola! ¡No puedo creer que ya estemos en el mes de noviembre! Soy la Dra. Guerrero y esta es nuestra comunicación mensual en video y también nuestra comunicación semanal.
Han sido más de diez semanas de aprendizaje a distancia y muchos de ustedes a lo mejor se están preguntando cuánto más va a durar. El número de casos de COVID-19 del condado de Fresno continúa disminuyendo y continuamos en el Nivel Rojo "Sustancial" y más negocios y distritos escolares han reabierto en cierta medida.
El comité para planificar cómo volver a la instrucción en persona se ha vuelto a reunir y está investigando y colaborando para elaborar un plan. Se enviará una encuesta a los padres y al personal esta semana para informarnos la cantidad de estudiantes que podemos esperar de regreso al comienzo del segundo semestre el 12 de enero si tenemos autorización para regresar de manera segura a las escuelas. Favor de completar la encuesta para que podamos planificar apropiadamente y hacer un inventario de los recursos que tenemos para satisfacer las necesidades de nuestros estudiantes durante la primavera del 2021.
Sé que estos son tiempos inciertos para todos y de alguna forma estamos enfrentando varios desafíos. Les aseguro que estamos haciendo todo lo que está a nuestro alcance para implementar las medidas de salud y seguridad necesarias para dar la bienvenida a nuestros estudiantes y personal a nuestras escuelas nuevamente. No sé exactamente cómo será nuestro regreso a la instrucción en persona, pero estoy convencida de que nuestros estudiantes necesitan de experiencias escolares consistentes y una oportunidad para desarrollarse y aprender de los demás.
Mientras tanto, el personal de las escuelas ha identificado a algunos estudiantes que se beneficiarían de la instrucción en persona en un grupo pequeño. Se les ha pedido a esos estudiantes que vengan a su escuela para recibir instrucción y asistencia en persona a partir de esta semana y continuarán durante el resto de este semestre hasta el 18 de diciembre. Esto solo se proporcionará a un pequeño número de estudiantes en cada sitio y se seguirán las pautas de salud y seguridad recomendadas.
Recientemente también actualizamos el plan de aprendizaje a distancia para nuestros estudiantes de la preparatoria. Ahora se espera que inicien sesión en Zoom de martes a viernes, cuatro días a la semana en lugar de las previas dos. Este cambio se debe a que un número considerable de estudiantes no estaban entregando sus tareas o no estaban participando activamente en su plataforma de aprendizaje. ¡Es extremadamente importante que todos los estudiantes inicien sesión en Zoom y completen todas las tareas TODOS LOS DÍAS! Es muy importante seguir aprendiendo mientras esperamos regresar físicamente a nuestras escuelas. Si los estudiantes tienen alguna dificultad para conectarse como parte de aprendizaje a distancia, favor de comunicarse con su escuela.
Hay que continuar siguiendo todos los protocolos de seguridad. Una temporada de celebraciones festivas se aproxima y es posible que tengamos la oportunidad de reunirnos con familiares y amigos. Recordemos que debemos seguir usando nuestras máscaras, lavarnos las manos con regularidad y mantener la distancia.
El mes de noviembre se conoce como el Mes de la Gratitud. Al enfrentar la incertidumbre y las dificultades, que no se nos olvide estar agradecidos por lo que sí tenemos. Personalmente, estoy agradecida por la oportunidad de ser parte de la familia del distrito de Parlier. Gracias por mantener fuerte su fe. Confío que saldremos de esta crisis más fuertes y aun más sabios. Que tengan un mes excepcional y una gran temporada de Acción de Gracias con sus seres queridos. ¡Nos vemos pronto!
