Dear Parlier USD Families,
Happy New Year!
As we begin 2021, I am renewed in optimism that we will be able to offer in-person learning to all our students soon. We continue to work closely with the Fresno County Department of Public Health (FCDPH), and we remain committed to our health and safety protocols. While the San Joaquin Valley region continues to be impacted by the pandemic, I can confidently report that there has been no direct transmission of the COVID-19 virus within our district. Thanks to our staff’s commitment to safety, we have adopted stringent safety measures and sanitizing protocols, even going beyond the County and State recommendations. I continue to believe that our schools are the safest place for our students and know that our students and staff will continue to practice all the safety precautions that have become second nature, even beyond this pandemic.
While I had hoped to be able to offer hybrid learning to at least our K-6th grade students, there is a hold on those plans due to Governor Newsom’s recent Safe Schools for All proposal. As long as our County’s COVID-19 case rate remains above 25 per 100,000 we have to wait. In the meantime, we will be submitting all necessary documentation so that as soon as we are able, we can begin to bring students back to our schools.
However, we are able to continue serving our students through Small Cohorts. Due to the extra caution we chose to apply these first two weeks of the Spring semester, those students will be physically returning to their schools on January 26. We hope to be able to increase the number of students who receive these services in the next few weeks.
You may be aware that the COVID vaccine is being administered in a tiered rollout. Earlier this week, our staff members who work in a healthcare capacity, including school nurses/health office aides were offered the opportunity to receive the first dose of the vaccine. We will continue to give updates from the County regarding locations and availability of the vaccine for our staff and community.
Though this next week is a short one due to the observation of Dr. Martin Luther King’s Day on Monday, we will be witnessing a historic day on Wednesday with the inauguration of the 46th President of the United States, Joe Biden, and Vice President and California Native Kamala Harris who is the first woman to be Vice President. She will be the highest-ranking woman in our government’s history. A symbol of diversity and opportunity, Vice President Harris is an inspiration to our students, especially our girls who can finally get a glimpse of what is possible.
Because we are now in a new year, historic events are taking place in spite of opposition, and progress has been made with the COVID vaccine, I have faith that we will see a return to a new normal where all students can return to in-person instruction and participate in co-curricular activities. I cannot thank you enough for your trust in allowing our team to educate and support your children.

¡Feliz año nuevo!
Al comenzar el 2021, me siento renovada en mi optimismo de que pronto podremos ofrecer aprendizaje en persona a todos nuestros estudiantes. Continuamos trabajando en colaboración con el Departamento de Salud Pública del Condado de Fresno (FCDPH) y seguimos con nuestros protocolos de salud. Aunque la región del Valle de San Joaquín continúa siendo afectada por la pandemia, les puedo asegurar que no ha habido transmisión directa del virus COVID-19 dentro de nuestro distrito. Gracias a la dedicación de nuestro equipo, hemos adoptado estrictas medidas de seguridad y protocolos de desinfección, incluso más allá de las recomendaciones del condado y del estado. Sigo creyendo que nuestras escuelas son el lugar más seguro para nuestros estudiantes y sé que todos continuaremos practicando todas las precauciones de seguridad que se han convertido en hábito, incluso más allá de esta pandemia.
Yo esperaba ya poder ofrecer aprendizaje híbrido a al menos nuestros estudiantes de Kinder a sexto grado. Desafortunadamente, esos planes están suspendidos debido a la reciente propuesta de Escuelas Seguras para Todos del Gobernador Newsom. Mientras el número de casos de COVID-19 de nuestro condado se mantenga por encima de 25 por cada 100,000, tenemos que esperar. Mientras tanto, estaremos entregando toda la documentación que se requiera para que tan pronto como podamos, comenzamos a regresar a los estudiantes de regreso a nuestras escuelas.
Sin embargo, si podemos continuar enseñando en persona a nuestros estudiantes a través de grupos pequeños como lo hemos estado haciendo. Debido a la precaución adicional que decidimos aplicar estas dos primeras semanas del semestre de primavera, esos estudiantes regresarán físicamente a sus escuelas hasta el 26 de enero. Esperamos poder aumentar el número de estudiantes que reciben estos servicios en las próximas semanas.
Es posible que ya sepan que la vacuna para prevenir el COVID se está administrando en una implementación planeada. Esta semana, nuestro personal de salud, incluyendo las enfermeras escolares y asistentes, tuvo la oportunidad de recibir la primera dosis de la vacuna. Continuaremos brindando actualizaciones del condado con respecto a las ubicaciones y la disponibilidad de la vacuna para nuestro personal y el resto de la comunidad.
Aunque la próxima semana es corta debido a la observación del Día del Dr. Martin Luther King el lunes, seremos testigos de un día histórico el miércoles con la toma de posesión del 46o presidente de los Estados Unidos, Joe Biden y la vicepresidente Kamala Harris, originaria de California, quien es la primera mujer en ser vicepresidente. Ella va a ser la mujer de más alto rango en la historia de nuestro gobierno. Un símbolo de diversidad y oportunidad, la vicepresidente Harris es una inspiración para nuestros estudiantes, especialmente para nuestras niñas y señoritas que finalmente pueden visualizar lo que es posible.
Debido a que ahora estamos en un nuevo año, se están produciendo eventos históricos a pesar de la oposición y se han hecho avances con la vacuna para prevenir el COVID, tengo fe en que veremos un regreso a una nueva normalidad donde todos nuestros estudiantes puedan regresar a la instrucción en persona y participar en actividades. No sé cómo agradecerles su confianza al permitir que nuestro equipo eduque y apoye a sus hijos.
