Parlier High School Parent Involvement Policy

1. Parlier High School will take the following actions to involve parents in the joint development and joint agreement of its School Parental Involvement Policy and its single plan for student achievement plan, if applicable, in an organized, ongoing, and timely way:

- Parents and Staff will work together to develop a written Family Involvement Policy for Parlier High School.

- Parents will be invited to the School Site Council and English Learners Advisory Committee meetings.

- Parents have an opportunity to review the school site plan and make suggestions where they feel

they want to see something different.

- Parents will have the opportunity to review the School Parental Involvement Policy

- Parents will have the opportunity to input into the redevelopment of the School Parental Involvement Policy

 

2. Parlier High School will take the following actions to distribute to parents of participating students and the local community, the School Parental Involvement Policy:

- School Messenger Phone announcements in English and Spanish

- Back to School Night and Open House

- Parents will be invited to come to the School Site Council and English Learner Advisory Committee meetings to review the School Parental Involvement Policy.

- A copy of the School Parental Involvement Policy will be sent home.

 

3. Parlier High School will update periodically its School Parental Involvement Policy to meet the changing needs of parents and the school.

- The School Parent Involvement Policy will be updated on a yearly basis.
- The policy will be reviewed by parents in two School Site Council and English Learner Advisory Committee meetings.

 

4. Parlier High School will convene an annual meeting to inform parents of the following:

- That their child's school participates in Title I
- About the requirements of Title I
- Of their rights to be involved

 

5. Parlier High School will hold a flexible number of meetings at varying times, and/or home visits, paid for with Title I funding as long as these services relate to parental involvement:

- Day or Evening meetings with flexible schedules
- Parent Classes / PBS
- Personal phone calls to invite reluctant parents
- Incentives and recognition for students when parents attend conferences and/or meetingsHome visits when transportation needed.

 

6. Parlier High School will provide timely information about Title I programs to parents of participating children in a timely manner:

- Back to School Night
- School Messenger Phone message in English and Spanish

- Flyers sent to parents in English and Spanish

 
7. Parlier High School will provide to parents of participating students a description and explanation of the curriculum in use at the school, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet:

- Parents receive Student Handbooks

- Materials used in school are presented to parents in SSC/ELAC meetings

- Student expectations, assessments, and curriculum are discussed at Back to School Night

- The school curriculum and curriculum adoptions are presented in the School Site Council & English Learner Advisory Committee Meeting

- The California Common Core Standards are discussed in SSC/ELAC meetings

 

8. Parlier High School will provide parents of participating children, if requested by parents, opportunities for regular meetings to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of their children, and respond to any such suggestions as soon as practicably possible:

- School Site Council and English Learner Advisory Committee Meetings

- Student Success Team Meetings
- Title I Meetings
- Safety Committee
- Teacher, and Principal calls to parents

 

9. Parlier High School will submit to the district any parent comments if the single plan for student achievement plan is not satisfactory to parents of participating students:

- Review comments or concerns at School Site Council/ELAC and Title I Meetings
- Present Single Plan to parents

 

10. Parlier High School will build the school’s and parentscapacity for strong parental involvement, in order to ensure effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership among the school involved, parents, and the community to improve student academic achievement, through the following activities specifically described below and following District Policy:

- Invite parents to visit their student’s classroom
- Invite parents to participate in the School Site Council and English Learner Advisory Committee

- Invite parents to Professional Development
- Invite parents to parent classes (i.e. Parent Classes / PBS)
- Invite parents to Academic, Sports Assemblies
- Invite parents to sports, arts, and music events

 

11. Parlier High School will incorporate the school-parent compact as a component of its School Parental Involvement Policy:

- The School-Parent Compact is signed by parents
- The School/Parent Compact is kept by the teacher

 

12. Parlier High School will, with the assistance of its district, provide assistance to parents of students served by the school in understanding topics such as the following, by undertaking the actions described in this list:

- The state's academic content standards
- The state and local academic assessments including alternate assessments

- The requirements of Title I
- How to monitor their child's progress and how to work with educators

- Parent classes

- Inviting parents to the local conferences

- Inviting parents to the School Site Council, English Learners Advisory Committee Meetings

- Inviting parents to the annual Back to School Night, and Open House.

 

13. Parlier High School will, with the assistance of its district, provide materials and training to help parents work with their children to improve their children's academic achievement, such as literacy training, and using technology, as appropriate, to foster parental involvement, by:

- Inviting parents to the School Board Meetings

- Inviting Parents to the District English Language Advisory Committee Meetings

- Inviting parents to the local conferences

- Inviting parents to the Migrant meetings and Conference

 

14. Parlier High School will, with the assistance of the district and parents, educate teachers, pupil services personnel, principals and other staff, in how to reach out to, communicate with, and work with parents as equal partners, in the value and utility of contributions of parents, and in how to implement and coordinate parent programs and build ties between parents and schools, by:

- Having Student Success Team Meetings
- Having Meetings with parents regarding student progress and concerns/staffing
- Individual Education Plan Meetings and 504 Meetings

 

15. Parlier High School will, to the extent feasible and appropriate, coordinate and integrate parental involvement programs and activities with Parlier Jr. High School that encourage and support parents in more fully participating in the education of their children, by:

- Students from Jr. High School visit the High School to see its functions
- Parents participate in a meeting with the Counseling Department where services are explained
- Parents learn of the different requirements from the High School

 

16. Parlier High School will, to the extent feasible and appropriate, take the following actions to ensure that information related to the school and parent- programs, meetings, and other activities, is sent to the parents of participating students in an understandable and uniform format, including alternative formats upon request, and, to the extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand:

- The school uses School Messenger to send messages via phone to parents in English and Spanish

- The school sends additional written reminders to parents in English and Spanish
- The School Marquee is also used to communicate upcoming events
